Filter Transfer Functions and Loop Orders

The loop order is defined by the highest power of s in the denominator of the transfer function (3.13). It is therefore evident that different filter transfer functions will result in different loop orders. The loop filter performs two main roles. It helps to suppress noise and high frequency components and determines how accurately the loop tracks the signal frequency. Some commonly implemented loop filters are described below.
