Summary of Main Contributions

This work will extend the clock noise model proposed by ETSI to include the input noise filtering characteristic of SDH synchronisation clocks. It will also suggest revised values for the bounds on gain factors in the ETSI noise model so that individual clocks obey the standards for wander. Values to allow the model to generate the noise produced by a Primary Reference Clock will also be suggested. Problems with the current wander mask for SDH Equipment Clocks will be highlighted showing that the mask cannot reflect the asymptotic behaviour of such a clock. Asymptotic approximations for the gain parameters will be obtained and will be found to agree with other published figures. It will be confirmed that the individual clock specifications are compatible with the standards for a maximum reference chain.
