The ETSI Standard detailing the Generic Requirements of SDH Synchronisation Networks

In this chapter the European Telecommunications Standards Institute standards on the achievement of synchronisation in SDH networks will be outlined. This includes a discussion of the various clock types and their functions as part of a SDH synchronisation network. The specifications of clock synchronisation performance known as masks are then presented for each of the clock types. The model of the noise generation of a synchronisation clock that has been simulated is then discussed. A contradiction is also highlighted between the reported origin of the mask levels and the values of certain model parameters.
